How it’s made

Every Illustrations begins in my sketchbook! If you’ve met me at an art show you’ve probably seen it!
I draw my image on Bristol board with pencil and ink my line work with India ink! I’ve used that pen for 16 years!
With my finished drawing I then scan it into my computer and use a Wacom tablet and pen to hand color the illustration. This is where I add all the amazing color!
The fully colorized illustration is then printed with my local professional printer. I then bond the high quality image to a special board and seal it with protective urethane.
Frame construction is next. You can see my new large size takes a frame that is almost 4 feet long!
Here you can see a larger pile of smaller frames that have been cut and are waiting to be routed.
Here the frames are being routed to the correct depth.
The Routed frames are then hand painted!
With the frames painted the image is set in the frame. Gluing and nailing bind the frame in place.
After the paint has a chance to set, a wax is used to coat and seal the frame.
Hangers are added and the illustration is ready to hang and enjoy. See you at an art show near you!
